BC Ecosocialists

Far to the left of the NDP, far greener than the Greens

What does it mean to be an ecosocialist? We think it means understanding that the rising concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few, at the expense of the many, is hurting many people now, while it also fuels the climate catastrophe that is driving us towards extinction.

We want to make big changes. And we’re inspired by people like Greta Thunberg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jeremy Corbyn, Bernie Sanders, Autumn Peltier and the folks at Extinction Rebellion, who also want to make big changes.

Maybe you’ve noticed that none of the parties currently in the legislature seem to want to make big changes. It’s as if they don’t understand or care about the size of the problems.

homelessness and gentrification is getting worse

inequality is getting worse

overdose deaths continue at a massive, tragic rate

fires, droughts and floods are more frequent

climate catastrophe is upon us, while BC builds more fossil fuel infrastructure.

We’ve noticed this too. We believe in representative democracy, but there’s nobody out there who we feel represents the world we want.

So we’ve started this new political party called The BC EcoSocialists. A party that’s far to the left of the NDP, and far greener than the Greens (who don’t even pretend to be left wing).

We know that it’s not a dream, but a practical reality, that we can all live decent lives without having to keep other people down. BC has the resources to house everyone. We can feed everyone, without subjecting them to the humiliation of food banks. We can afford to provide childcare to everyone who needs it. We can raise welfare rates so that every person who is unemployed (for whatever reason) can live with dignity.

We want to tax rich people and corporations to fund better policies, like building tens of thousands of units of public social housing, employing people to build new green energy and transportation infrastructure, and stopping all new fossil fuel infrastructure, including all LNG. We would also stop Site C, and close the coal mines.

By the way, we are anti-sexism, anti-racism, anti-homophobia, anti-transphobia and against poor-bashing and legislated poverty. We want to return power and land to Indigenous people.

If you agree, we hope that you’ll get in touch with us to help to build the BC Ecosocialists. It only costs a dollar to join.
