Support the motion to ban renovictions in Vancouver

We had such a packed and exciting General Meeting last night. With Tenant Power we can to end renovictions this week!

Vancouver Councillor Jean Swanson has put a motion forward to Protect Tenants from Renovictions and Aggressive Buy-Outs.

Speakers on this motion will be heard at 6PM on Tuesday November 27th at City Hall. Read the rest of this email to find out what you need to know to support the motion to ban renovictions.

The Plan

    • Tomorrow, Monday November 26th at 6PM we will host a workshop at the Carnegie Community Centre at 6PM in the 3rd floor classroom for speakers on the motion. 
    • If you can't make it tomorrow for the workshop, email us at tenantsunion.yvr@gmail.com for help if you need it.
  • We meet for a Rally outside city hall at 5PM on Tuesday, Nov 27. Please come out to support each other, even if you are not speaking at City Hall. Here's the Facebook Event
  • After the Rally we will meet on the 3rd floor of city hall at 6PM.
  • If you can’t make it on time, get a sense of where they are in the speakers list by
    • watching the hearing live from the City’s website
    • Checking Twitter @VanCityClerk
    • Text someone at the VTU
  • We expect the hearing to continue on Wednesday and Thursday night of that week and will update our social media feeds on Facebook (Vancouver Tenants Union) and Twitter (@YVRTenantsUnion) as soon as we know the times. The city will email speakers.
  • At the end of all the speakers, the mayor and council will debate Swanson’s motion and vote on it. They might break it up and vote on each portion separately, so make sure you indicate your support for the motion in its entirety.
