Will Gov't Act to Curb Housing Crisis?

Canada's housing shortage is almost at a "crisis level," said the CEO of an investment firm that owns dozens of B.C. apartment buildings. "The good news for investors is there is no easy solution in sight.”

In early March, Mark Goodman flew to Toronto to meet with CEOs of six of that city’s  seven biggest institutional investors in multi-family residential real estate.

On Aug. 22, Vancouver immigration officers quietly deported a Danish journalist making a film about opposition to the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX). He was told that, during COVID, media is not an essential service.

 

As a public health physician and scientist blocking the TMX, I would disagree.

Transit Cuts!

TransLink has been cutting bus service for years. This Labour Day most cutbacks are in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond and North Vancouver.

Totally suspended until 2021 are Route Nos. 32, 44, 143, 258, and 480.

 Frequency on other bus routes will be cut back by 10 to 33%. (Changing from every 10 mins to 15 mins or from every 20 mins to every 30 mins is a 33% cut.)

The Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline is spilling into drinking water aquifers, on sacred sites, and feeding catastrophic climate change, and this pipeline wouldn’t be possible without major insurers backing the project.

I hope all of you are doing OK with the pandemic we find ourselves in.
 
I am writing because the Minister of Fisheries has a critical decision that will influence the future of the Fraser River sockeye and all species of BC wild salmon.  The 2020 Fraser sockeye forecast return is much lower than last year, which was the lowest in the history of Canada.  We are watching extinction in play.
