I'm attaching Earle Peach's statement to the court.  Yesterday he was given a two-week sentence (plus a one-year period of probation following his release!) for contempt of court in violating the TMX injunction.

Please send letters of support to Earle Peach, Bravo North, North Fraser Pretrial Centre, 1451 Kingsway, Coquitlam, B.C., V3C 1S2.

In solidarity,

Will Offley

"This is what we need to be prepared to do again and again as the Tories bring in their new immigration proposals and demonize asylum seekers and refugees," said MP Kim Johnson.

Progressive lawmakers and immigrant rights advocates in the United Kingdom on Thursday into Friday applauded an impromptu show of solidarity in Glasgow, Scotland which forced immigration enforcement agents to release two men after they attempted to detain them in a dawn raid during Eid al-Fitr.

Though set in the UK, the article below applies equally to other countries, where the illusion that we can  "persuade" elected champions of corporate profiteering to support progressive causes is a self-defeating diversion from our real task. As stated in the article, this is "the building of alternative institutions of collective power and decision making, outside of the state." With most politicians it's not a question of not comprehending reality or of worrying that more radical policies will alienate middle-of-the-road voters.
