St Philip's Anglican Church

3737 27th Ave. W., Vancouver

From the historic Global Climate Strikes to the International Week of Rebellion, climate change is increasingly in the spotlight around the world. But just how bad are things really? What can we do about it? A local talk for the Lower Mainland community.

The planet is in ecological crisis: we are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction event this planet has experienced. Scientists believe we may have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown. This is an unprecedented global emergency. Humanity faces a grave risk.

In this public talk , by local members of Extinction Rebellion, will share the latest climate science on where our planet and our society is heading, discuss some of the current psychology around climate change and offer solutions through the study of previous social movements.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Due to the content of the talk, parental discretion is advised if bringing along young children.

This event aims to:
• Raise awareness of and tell the truth about the current environmental crisis, within a Canadian context.
• Arm local people with facts they can share with neighbors, friends and family.
• Consider what we can do about this in Vancouver / Lower Mainland

There will be time to ask questions and discuss afterwards. Entry is free but donations towards venue hire, equipment, and organizing costs at the end of the event are welcome (only if you can afford to).
Doors open and refreshments available from 6:30 PM

This event takes place on the traditional, unceded, occupied territories of the Coast Salish peoples: the səlil̓wətaʔɬ Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

We affirm the legal right of all Indigenous Peoples to free, prior, and informed consent, and to refuse to approve development projects on their lands, such as the TMX Pipeline. Canada has not reconciled its colonial laws with this basic right of Indigenous Sovereignty. We stand in solidarity with the Protect the Inlet movement here in Vancouver that is still fighting to assert and defend this right.
