This week two activists and artists Marta Robertson-Smyth and Pia Massie will join others in court to face charges of “criminal contempt of court” for blocking the gates of Kinder Morgan's Tank Farm facility in Burnaby. Over 240 people have been arrested so far in this campaign of non-violent civil disobedience, which was aimed at stopping construction of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion.

Despite facing the court case, both Marta and Pia have been extremely active in making sure Climate Convergence actions are dynamic, beautiful and impactful. They are making a constitutional challenge, so it should both very interesting and important!

Despite an August 30 Appeals Court Ruling "quashing" the approval of pipeline expansion construction, Justice Kenneth Afflek continues to impose increasingly harsh sentences - including jail time. Like so many others, Marta and Pia are compassionate and committed activists and community members who should be supported, not jailed.

Join us as we continue to support those who make sacrifices to stand up for people and planet before pipelines and profit.
