Bring pots and pans to make some noise & most importantly bring your friends!

Finance Minister Bill Morneau will be attending the G7 finance ministers meeting this weekend on the heels of announcing the federal government's decision to bailout Kinder Morgan by purchasing it's pipeline assets. The decision was made in hopes of proceeding with the expansion of the pipeline. This is indefensible if we consider the impacts on land and water, the opposition to the expansion by indigenous communities all along the route from the tar sands to the Salish Sea and the climate crisis which has begun impacting people all around the world.

But the decision has also been made to protect the profits and investments of Kinder Morgan. Once again the public is being asked to finance the golden parachute for a corporation that made poor decisions and was struggle financially as a consequence, much like the banks were supported during the 2008 financial crisis. This is also precisely what the schemes that are developed by the G7 are designed to do. They facilitate the transfer of indigenous, public and commonly held lands, resources, culture, knowledge and money into the hands of private investors. Simply said, the G7 functions to assist the most wealthy people and corporations on the planet in securing ways to make even more money.

The bailout of Kinder Morgan is one example of the larger agenda of the G7 to promote corporate plunder while also protecting their profits. It also highlights a complete disregard for Indigenous lands & title, the climate, water and the health of all life on the planet. This is not the time to be investing in fossil fuel infrastructure.

In the lead up to the G7 summit in La Malbaie, Quebec and on the heels of the Kinder Morgan bailout we are calling upon people to join us, to mobilize in solidarity with the now decade old fight against the Kinder Morgan pipeline, with indigenous opposition and with the long history of global opposition to corporate power imposed on communities via policies developed at meetings like the G7 summit.

This event takes place on unceded Skwxwú7mesh & Lil'wat Territories
