Oil’s Deep State: A talk and book launch with Kevin Taft

The Corporate Mapping Project (a partnership of CCPA, Parkland Institute and the University of Victoria) is hosting a free public talk featuring Kevin Taft, author of a new book on the power of the oil industry.

Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: The Hive (#210 – 128 W. Hastings St.)
Register at: ccpabc.ca/taft-van

Kevin Taft is a former Alberta Liberal MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Alberta government from 2004-2008. His most recent book—Oil’s Deep State: How the petroleum industry undermines democracy and stops action on global warming—casts dramatic new light on exactly how the oil industry and its lobbyists work to influence key democratic institutions.

His upcoming talk will offer a brisk tour of the recent work of scholars who have developed the concepts of the ‘deep state’ and ‘institutional capture’ to understand how one rich industry can override and defeat the public interest at virtually every turn.
