Rally for a U-Pass for the working class

Coalition of Progressive Electors

Join the COPE team tomorrow to rally for a U-Pass for the working class. We’ll be joined by transit advocates who agree that we have to work toward free transit. And we’ll be unveiling a giant billboard that was definitely not funded by Peter Wall.

What: Rally for a U-Pass for the working class
When: Tuesday October 2nd, noon-1pm
Where: City Hall Skytrain station, Cambie and Broadway
Please RSVP on the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/273653669933689/

Developers and the rich have been getting a free ride from City Hall for too long. Now it's time to give working class people a break.

Transit fares have been going up every year. It's $174 for a three-zone pass, there's no subsidized pass for low-income people, and even 5 year-olds have to pay for transit.

Enough is enough! We can eliminate fares for kids. And it’s time to extend the free BC Bus Pass program for low-income seniors to all people with low income in Vancouver, and to extend the $41/month U-Pass beyond current students to all working-class people.

The free low-income three-zone bus pass will save riders $2,043/year, and the $41/month U-Pass will save riders $1,572 per year.

By offering affordable bus passes, many more Vancouverites will take public transit instead of driving cars, taking tens of thousands of cars off the road. It costs about $10,000/year to commute by car, but only $492/year using a $41/month U-Pass.

With a U-Pass for the working class, no one will be left at the curb!

See you tomorrow,
Anne Roberts
COPE candidate for Vancouver city council

PS. If you can't make the rally, please consider donating $41 to the campaign. If this campaign is successful, it will make life easier and more affordable for thousands of working class Vancouverites!
