Mike Mercredi, from Fort Chipewyan, spoke throughout territories along the Kinder Morgan pipeline 10 years ago in order to raise awareness of the devastation caused by the tar sands developments upon the land, people and the climate. His message helped spawn what is now wide spread awareness and opposition to the pipeline, opposition which at the time was both an act of local resistance but also a very clear act of solidarity with communities downstream of the tar sands.
During that tour Mike exposed the colonial and racist foundations of the tar sands when he reminded audiences that “if the Athabasca River flowed south, into Edmonton, the tar sands would be shut down tomorrow.” The environmental racism is as obvious as the commitment of various levels of government to protect the profits of corporations. This never ending thirst for profits is displacing communities from their lands all around the world as well as from their homes in the cities and making it necessary impacted communities to create genuine solidarity between movements in order to confront the power corporations and the governments they sponsor.
Join us on March 23rd as we reaffirm and expand the solidarity when Mike returns to the west coast and is joined by communities and nations all along the pipeline route united in opposition to the tar sands, to pipelines, to displacement and to corporate profiteers.

Brandon Gabriel (Kwelexwecten) - Kwantlen Nation. Brandon is a renowned and award winning artist currently organizing against the pipeline crossing Kwantlen Territories.
Natalie Knight - Yurok from northern California and Navajo from New Mexico. Natalie lives on unceded Coast Salish territories and is a member of Alliance Against Displacement.
Jeff McNeil-Seymour - Tk'emlúps te Secwepemc Nation. Jeff is two-spirit land and water defender and instructor at Thompson Rivers University and is working to stop the pipeline and man camps.
Mike Mercredi - Athabasca Dene from Fort Chipewyan, Treaty 8 Territory downstream of the Tar Sands. Mike helped spark resistance to the Tar Sands & proposed pipelines to the west.
Billie Pierre - Nlaka'pamux Nation. Billie is long been engaged in indigenous sovereignty movements and is organizing with Nlaka'pamux Grassroots in opposition to the pipeline.
Michelle Vendiola - Representing Red Line Salish Sea, Michelle is organizing against tar sands pipelines south of the colonial border in and around Lummi Territories.
