Please join UBCC350, Extinction Rebellion Vancouver, Climate Convergence and Sustainabiliteens on Monday for a fun action to tell UBC to ‘Divest the Rest’ of their investments in the dirty fossil fuel industry!

The university is hosting an “agents of change” lecture and Q&A with UBC president Santa Ono and the University of California president, Janet Napolitano. According to the events page (https://sustain.ubc.ca/events/agents-change?fbclid=IwAR0T-3Qk638Ta9wn-bpXC1GHIjz-y_xCktNx-gBN5fysQh-WoGxugcHc4A0), these universities are “well-positioned to lead the way towards a future that is sustainable and thriving for all.”

But how about UBC’s $85 million invested in fossil fuels? UBCC350 have been campaigning for full divestment for years; but so far, only a $15 million “Sustainable Future Pool” has been created, which makes up only 1% of UBC's total investments.
See more details here: https://www.ubyssey.ca/news/ubcc350-calls-on-ubc-to-divest/

We will be outside the building where this event is taking place, spelling out the word “divest” with our bodies on the ground. This will be captured on video and will call out UBC’s hypocrisy in claiming to be leading the way to a sustainable future. We are in a climate crisis - UBC’s non-commitment to fully sustainable investments will not be nearly enough to provide for their students’ futures.

Please arrive promptly at 5:15pm with banners and signage: “divest the rest”, “UBC divest”, “fossil-free UBC”, and anything else which you can create!
