Unions can do so much for climate justice. They could enshrine commitments to reducing carbon emissions in their collective agreements, removing them from the sphere of government interference. They could use their collective economic power to win far-reaching improvements to society.

In fact, that’s already happening in many parts of the United States: the LA teachers’ strike won everything from greater funding and smaller classroom sizes to more green spaces for their communities. SEIU local 1021 demanded that the City of San Francisco divest its pension fund from fossil fuels and halt construction of a new coal shipping terminal. Baton Rouge teachers and service workers planned a walkout that shut down a planned $6 million public handout for ExxonMobil.

Want to know how we can make that happen together, in the United States and in Canada? Sign up here to join the webinar: Putting Climate Justice on the Bargaining Table. Everyone who RSVPs will get access to the webinar recording, even if you can’t make it in person.
