Addressing the Gaps in Senior’s Care

This winter, the Council of Canadians is teaming up with the BC Health Coalition to bring you two webinars regarding long term care homes across Canada.

The Committed to Seniors Care webinars will focus on
  • Removing the Profit Motive from Long Term Care
  • Addressing the Gaps in Seniors’ Care.
The elements of the seniors’ care system should fit together in a seamless continuum of support that maintains or improves the health of seniors. Home support, assisted living and long-term care are interdependent elements of seniors’ care. These connected services impact where seniors live and the level of health care seniors have access to. They also share and draw from the same labour force. Shamefully, operators and governments have often played these sectors against each other.

Together with the BC Health Coalition, the Council acknowledges that we need to both address issues in long term care and the gaps and growing issues in home care, home support and assisted living.

We want to see greater accountability for residents, improved working conditions for workers and an increase in public transparency in long-term care. Most importantly, we want public funding for care to go directly to providing care and not to subsidize profits of corporate care homes. To do this, we need a provincial plan to eliminate the profit motive from long-term care and seniors’ care.

Find out how you can get involved in this urgent campaign.
