Dear friends,

The Liberal government is planning major spending to stimulate Canada’s economy -- and they've asked to hear your priorities.

This could be a major opportunity to transition Canada’s economy off fossil fuels and implement key priorities from The Leap Manifesto, from community-owned renewables to affordable transit. We need to push the Liberals to seize it.

Can you take five minutes to let the government know your priorities for investment in 2016? They are currently accepting submissions online, via email and social media.

For those of you on Facebook, Finance Minister Bill Morneau is hosting a Facebook Live chat today, Friday January 15th at 4pm Eastern Standard Time.

You can join in here this afternoon to share your questions and comments with him directly.

Here are some ideas for stimulus investment to share with the government, taken from The Leap Manifesto.

1. Subsidies for community-owned renewable projects, with Indigenous and impacted communities first in line.

2. Expanding the low-carbon economy: care-giving, teaching, social work, the arts and public-interest media.

3. Expanding transit and light rail across Canada.

4. Investments in local food systems to counter the high price of imports.

5. Investment in energy efficient homes and the retrofitting of existing buildings that ensures low income communities and neighbourhoods will benefit first.

This is a chance to jump-start Canada’s transition off fossil fuels and advance the justice-based clean energy vision laid out in the Leap Manifesto.

Will you share your priorities with the government today?

Yours,

Bianca Mugyenyi, On behalf of the Leap Manifesto team
