Extinction Rebellion Vancouver will be gathering at City Hall on the 27th of March at 12 pm. We will then march on to Cambie bridge and nonviolently take up public space. We will sit down in defiance of the Canadian state that is continuing to fail in its duty to protect human lives by failing to take appropriate action on the climate and ecological emergency
We demand that the Canadian government to enact a randomly selected citizen's assembly that holds power to preside over creating an emergency plan for climate and ecological justice. Civil disobedience is the only method that we have remaining to have our voices heard when all other methods have proven ineffective over 30 years of advocacy.
When Canada's legal and governments' institutions are so profoundly ill-equipped to provide just solutions to a crisis that threatens billions around the world and disproportionately affects people right here on unceded Coast Salish Territory who depend on the land and the water - the only thing left to do is to challenge their authority through civil resistance and act in support of new institutions that give power to the people.
This action is part of our monthly escalating actions in the lead up to the Spring Rebellion starting May 1st! We need to be bold in our defiance of the Canadian government that is no longer fit for purpose in solving the emergency we're in.
We require that all those attending wear a mask and observe physical distancing protocols to keep everyone covid-safe.
This action take place on the unceded, stolen land of the Coast Salish peoples.
