Defund Trans Mountain - action alert

Message from Dogwood:

A Defund TMX week of action is starting this Monday that’s being organized by some incredible youth leaders from across the country. They’re calling on Canada’s banks to stop funding the climate-wrecking Trans Mountain pipeline, and start investing in our collective future instead.

If you’re in the Lower Mainland, join the Sustainabiliteens outside RBC and TD in Burnaby on Friday, July 29 at 11 a.m.

If you live elsewhere, please consider supporting these youth organizers by hosting an event of your own. This toolkit has everything you need to organize an action. It doesn’t have to be a big rally – and all ages are encouraged to host events! Here are a few ideas from the toolkit to get you thinking:

  • Chalk signs on the sidewalk outside your local branch
  • Put up posters or a banner
  • Deliver a letter to your bank
  • Host a Defund TMX e-mail writing party

Get creative and see what you can pull off to help draw your community’s attention to the fact that RBC, TD, Scotiabank, CIBC, BMO and National are now responsible for the climate disasters and Indigenous rights violations that are being caused by this pipeline.

This spring we learned that Canada’s biggest banks had put up a $10 billion loan to finance the next stage of TMX construction. But the deal expires next April (before the pipeline will be finished.) If we can show the banks how controversial their involvement is through tactics like this week of action, we can push them not to renew their loan next year – stopping Trans Mountain in its tracks.

Youth organizers are shining a spotlight on TMX right across the country – I hope you’ll consider supporting them and getting involved in the week of action!

With thanks,

Alexandra

P.S. Can’t join or host an event? If you haven’t already, send a message to bank CEOs telling them to defund Trans Mountain!
