This year, we have seen both electoral politics and revolutionary action playing pivotal roles in reshaping our political system to respond to the mounting challenges of climate change, racial injustice, global health, and scores of tributary issues.

As ecosocialists, we agree that in order for these problems to be adequately addressed, capitalism must be abolished and supplanted with an economic system that measures success according to sustainability and quality of life rather than endless, aimless material growth.
Although this notion unites ecosocialists around the world, there is a plurality of opinions and ideologies on how we could (or should) get there.
Join us for our inaugural two-hour event via JITSI and hear perspectives on this topic from our three esteemed panelists: Gary Porter, Dimitri Lascaris, and Radhika Desai. This event is hosted by the Unity Assembly and our partner organizations. The webcast and video portion is generously produced by Socialist Action Canada.
** Gary Porter became a revolutionary socialist at the age of 19, just a few short decades ago. He recently drafted the resolution for Socialist action on Ecosocialism v Fossil Capitalism which was adopted unanimously at the Socialist Action convention and it has since been published.
Gary is a member of the Central Committee of Socislist Action and Organizer of the BC branch. He is a writer, speaker and educator on ecosocialism and the struggle of the working class around the globe.
** Dimitri Lascaris is a lawyer, journalist, activist, and former 2020 candidate for Green Party Leadership. After graduating from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1991, Dimitri began his legal career at the Wall Street law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell, where he represented large financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, in connection with major securities offerings.
In 2012, Dimitri was named by Canadian Lawyer Magazine as one of the 25 most influential lawyers in Canada, and in 2013, he was named by Canadian Business Magazine as one of the 50 most influential persons in Canadian business. Canadian Business Magazine described Dimitri as the “fiercest legal advocate for shareholder rights.”
Dimitri’s Green Party leadership campaign earned him a whopping 10,000 votes (42.2% of total votes), landing him only 2000 votes shy of the victory. He is a fierce ecosocialist and prominent pro Palestinian advocate.
** Radhika Desai is Professor at the Department of Political Studies, University of Manitoba. She is the author of Slouching Towards Ayodhya: From Congress to Hindutva in Indian Politics (2004) and Intellectuals and Socialism: 'Social Democrats' and the Labour Party (1994), a New Statesman and Society Book of the Month, and editor of Developmental and Cultural Nationalisms; a special issue of Third World Quarterly (2008). She is also the author of of numerous articles in Economic and Political Weekly, New Left Review, Third World Quarterly and other journals and in edited collections on parties, political economy, culture and nationalism. She is an esteemed political theorist and dedicated academic.
