It's time to Sue Big Oil

On Wednesday, June 15th at 12 noon we will unveil the movement to Sue Big Oil – a people-powered campaign designed to help communities and local governments hold major fossil fuel companies accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
Across British Columbia, fossil fuel-driven climate disasters are becoming more severe and more frequent. Last summer, a record-shattering heat wave killed hundreds of people. That devastating event was followed by historic wildfire and flooding seasons that forced communities around BC to evacuate from their homes.

People across the province are feeling the destructive force of climate change, and adding insult to injury, communities are being left with the rising costs associated with climate damages.

It’s not right that our cities, towns – and the most marginalized among us – have to pay the price for a mess caused by global oil and gas corporations.

It’s time to sue Big Oil to force them (and their investors) to change their behavior and take the climate crisis seriously. We must demand that they pay their fair share for the true cost of their polluting products.
This 1-hour online launch event will be moderated by climate journalist Avi Lewis, and will feature expert speakers who will tell us how we can get our local governments on-side and take on Big Oil. We’ll also suggest ways to get involved in your own community.

We have the legal tools to take these corporations to court, but we need your energy and local knowledge to power this campaign.

We hope to see you on the 15th.

In solidarity,
