Movie - The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel and more

You’re invited to a FREE (online) movie night with Sierra Club BC! Join us for a movie streaming and a panel discussion of the documentary The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel

Register here to receive a link to stream the documentary and, beginning on Monday, May 10, you’ll have 72 hours to watch the film.

As an added bonus, you’ll also be invited to a fascinating discussion on the documentary’s main topics with filmmaker Joel Bakan and activist, organizer, and Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant, who has a guest appearance in the film. This conversation will be moderated by me, Sierra Club BC climate justice lead Anjali Appadurai (I also make an appearance in the film!). Join the panel discussion on Wednesday, May 12 at 7 p.m.

Here’s a bit more about the film: In 2003, Joel Bakan’s documentary The Corporation examined the rise of the corporation as an entity with most of the legal rights of a person. Since then—despite the climate crisis—we have seen corporations grow in power and strength, rapidly changing the playing field by adapting, mutating and disguising themselves as allies of the climate movement.

This is why Bakan and co-producer Jennifer Abbot decided to release the aptly named follow-up The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel. This recently released documentary takes a look at how corporate social responsibility campaigns often block real climate action and highlights some of the inspiring movements for change that keep us hopeful

We look forward to watching and discussing the film with you!
