Unite! Don't fright! Join the Worker Solidarity Fight!
It's a scary time in the world, and a scary time for workers. It's understandable to let our fear drive us into apathy. But as workers, we know better. We know that to take on the ghouls and the vampires feeding on our labour, we need to not fright, but to UNITE.
Every day recognized as a holiday is built on the labour of workers. Workers work hardest every Halloween, every Christmas, every New Years, every day where some of us rest - workers are in their workplaces dealing with holiday crowds, ensuring everyone else gets their treats and their holiday cheer.
This Halloween, we at the Worker Solidarity Network, are determined to ensure these workers get the recognition they deserve. We want to ensure that the workers are the ones getting treats instead of bosses' tricks for once; we want to ensure workers know there are others out there in solidarity with them, and we want to pave the way for workers to UNITE, NOT FRIGHT!
This Halloween, at 1pm, we are taking to the streets to give workers treats and showing them our appreciation. And to treat ourselves, we will be all heading to a social together aftererwards to share our best scary workplace stories with each other!
Will you join us and other workers this Halloween to unite to fright the bosses?
We will be meeting outside the Worker Solidarity Network office at 1pm. We will be reaching out to registrants to let you know how to contact us day of! If you are on the Lower Mainland, check out our Vancouver Halloween event here.
Unable to make it to our outreach but still want to share space with workers who care about each other? Join us for the social at 2:30pm at Irish Times Pub.
Please register and let us know what portions of the event you are making to, so we can make reservations accordingly.
We recognize that our outreach will take place on the traditional, uncededed, and ancestral territories of the Legwungen people. Colonialism is intrinsically tried to the struggle for worker justice, the same corporations that exploit Indigenous land, resources, water here are the same corporations that drive precarious work. The movement for worker justice is also a movement for Indigenous justice, and we acknowledge the leadership of Indigenous peoples in the struggle for justice since time immemorial.
Costumes are encouraged but not mandatory. As always, no form of discrimination, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, or any other form of oppressive behaviours will be tolerated. This applies to your costumes as well! Please costume up appropriately. Uncertain whether your costume would be okay? Do not hesitate to reach out to Ismail at ismail@workersolidarity.ca - there is never any shame in asking or not knowing.
