We count on city officials to serve our interests and protect public safety, especially in these times of polycrisis and unprecedented fossil fuel-induced climate emergencies. Trans Mountain Corporation has violated the public trust throughout the construction and operation of TMX, continuing to prioritize profit over life and burdening communities with climate change risk and impacts from fires and floods.
The Community Contribution Agreement between Trans Mountain and the City of Burnaby signed on September 27, 2024, is a violation of climate justice as it seeks to wipe Trans Mountain clean from any negative “fact or opinion or otherwise” that directly or indirectly affects them. Historical amnesia is a dangerous weapon, and we cannot afford our children and grandchildren to inherit it as we are forced to enter the point of no return on climate change. We invite everyone to gather at the Burnaby City Hall to demand climate justice, transparency, and accountability. Let us hear the whole truth about the risk and how the city and community together can respond.
