Partnering in the fight against wildfires: Canada and the EU - 0n line

Canada and the European Union have been working together for years on issues such as climate change, energy and the environment — and now, wildfire prevention and resilience.

The Delegation of the EU to Canada, in partnership with Canada’s National Observer, invites you to join a panel discussion event on the fight against wildfires hosted by CNO’s David McKie on Thursday, October 9.

David will welcome EU Ambassador Geneviève Tuts and EU Deputy Director of European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) Hans Das, who will speak about strengthening bilateral ties ahead of the 50th anniversary of EU-Canada diplomatic relations and rescue operations and emergency coordination across Europe and beyond, respectively.

We’ll also hear keynote remarks from Trevor Bhupsingh, Assistant Deputy Minister of Emergency Management and Programs Branch at Public Safety Canada and Michael Bonser, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Strategic Policy and International Affairs Branch at Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Following that, there will be a panel discussion with Dale Beugin, Executive Vice President of the Canadian Climate Institute; Timothy Gull member of the Thunderbird collective — an Indigenous working group advancing Indigenous fire stewardship across Canada — and Koreen Millard, Assistant Professor of Carleton University in geography and environmental studies.

There will be an audience Q and A at the end of the program.

Whether you work in emergency management, climate policy, environmental protection, or simply care about building resilient communities, this conversation is for you. Register today.
