Canada’s Climate Contradiction: Talking Green While Expanding Fossil Fuels

Canada and BC speak the language of climate leadership while supporting fossil fuel expansion. The federal and provincial governments are using financial and political instability to fast-track fossil fuel infrastructure in the name of national sovereignty. Meanwhile, market-based carbon solutions (i.e., carbon credits) are being used to justify fossil fuel use citing ‘offsetting’ measures. This panel brings together climate justice advocacy, research, and political voices to discuss how to meet the current moment and build towards a climate-just future. We invite speakers to examine policy greenwashing, discuss structural changes, and explore what communities can do to reject false solutions.
