Notice about important upcoming rally - support needed!

Monday, November 4th. (If you can't make it, and even if you can, please sign this petition!).

The Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) is holding a public meeting at the Fairmont Hotel from 6-7pm PT. These meetings only happen every other year, so this is an important opportunity to make our voices heard.
If you can't make it, and even if you can, please sign this petition!

Organizers are planning a rally before the meeting at 4:30pm and they need your support!

What's the event?

Starting at 4:30, a rally will take place outside the Fairmont. This is going to be an amazing show of cross-movement solidarity as Palestine solidarity groups, CAPE, and climate folks will all be in attendance. Chief Na'Moks will be there to speak about Indigenous rights. We need numbers to show up and make some noise! Signs are welcome, but will not be allowed into the meeting. A number of folks will be asking pointed questions during the Q&A period, and of course, you're welcome to join the meeting and ask questions.

What's so horrible about the CPPIB? Well...
  • They don't have any Indigenous rights policy and have explicitly stated lack of interest in UNDRIP
  • They invest BILLIONS in fossil fuels, and manage the $647 billion Canadian Pension Plan. Every working and retired Canadian outside of Quebec is a member of the CPP
  • They're growing their fossil fuel investments, expanding fracking, buying pipeline networks, etc.
  • 3 out of 11 directors are fossil fuel execs/directors, and one director is on the FortisBC board
IT'S BAD, FOLKS. They need to be pushed on their climate commitments and lack of care around Indigenous rights.

If you can, please join those who will be raising their voices at the meeting on November 4 and at the rally beforehand. If you have questions, contact patrick@shiftaction.ca.
