Vigil for Ancient Forests
For the Future…For What We Love
Tuesday, February 8, 12 noon - 1 pm
Legislature Lawn
When the BC parliament opens and the Lieutenant-Governor delivers John Horgan's throne speech, we will be there FOR THE FUTURE!
- For What We Love: Ancient Forests, Endangered Species, Indigenous Lands, a Cool(er) Earth
- For Immediate Action: Stop all Old-Growth Logging NOW. We’re calling on the government to allocate $300 million in the February budget—allowing real choice for First Nations wanting to protect their forests and find alternatives to old-growth logging
This will be a respectful, positive, COVID-safe event. We are firmly committed to having everyone masked and physically distanced throughout. It will include:
- Elder Bill Jones
- Parents 4 Climate and Elders for Ancient Trees
- grounding meditation—our love of the ancient forests, our grief for what is lost, our future vision
- Paul (Chiyokten) Wagner
- closing with drumming and singing
We want to create a forest in front of the Parliament Buildings, so we ask you to come in your best tree regalia. This could include a tree-shaped sign, a hat bedecked with sword ferns or boughs—use your creativity! Endangered species signs are also welcome. (Note: There will be extra greenery available at the beginning of the vigil. If you need some help with costuming, come a bit early.)
IMPORTANT: Please share this invitation with friends and organizations
We need a good turnout for this event!
