  1. Join us for a Lost Creek Ravine Clean-up Party: Bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and join with others in cleaning up this beautiful forested area! Meet at 12:30PM, Friday September 18th at the “Protect the Planet - Stop TMX” information kiosk at Hume Park, 660 E Columbia St, New Westminster, BC MAP

  1. Guided Forest Walk & Tour of Tree-top camp: Find out how you can join a coalition of organizations and concerned individuals who are continuing to closely monitor the proposed pipeline route in BC, including the Holmes Creek area, to ensure that the land and water remain protected. We have launched an initiative in which people can adopt a specific segment of the pipeline route, to walk, record and report their observations on a regular basis.

Meet at 3PM on Friday September 18th at the “Protect the Planet - Stop TMX” information kiosk at Hume Park, 660 E Columbia St, New Westminster, BC MAP

Background:

Beginning August 3rd, a coalition of organizations and concerned individuals have blocked the first attempted construction of the TransMountain pipeline outside company fencing in the Lower Mainland. An aerial camp is suspended between two trees above Holmes Creek, a tributary of the salmon-bearing Brunette River. Multiple climbers have ascended the platform since Aug. 3 when 63 year-old physician-scientist Tim Takaro initiated the blockade with a ten day sit.

The camp is located within a section of the pipeline route near the Brunette River that was scheduled to be cleared between August 1st and September 15th, 2020. The tree occupation and support camp has potentially delayed local construction of this $20 billion project for a year. In addition, campers and volunteers have begun cleaning up the heavily littered Holmes Creek and Lost Creek ravines, with another major garbage removal planned for Friday Sep18.
