Hosted by Mountain Protectors

Please join us on the morning of Sept 15th at the BC Supreme Court to show solidarity before the start of the sentencing hearing of three Indigenous water & land defenders, found in contempt of court for peacefully praying for the protection of the land in the face of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion on Burnaby Mountain. The Crown is seeking to imprison them for their principled action to protect unceded Coast Salish lands from accelerated climate disaster. This hearing begins Sept 15 and is scheduled to go on for Sept 16, 17 and 18. It’s possible they may be directly taken to jail at the conclusion of the hearing. Witnessing the sacrifices being made to defend the unceded Coast Salish lands that we rely on, and benefit from, is vital to maintaining a collective presence against the TMX expansion now being irresponsibly subsidized by the Federal Government. The Crown is supposed to represent the public interest, but it seems to primarily be acting as an agent for the pipeline and ignoring that stopping or slowing down climate crisis is absolutely in the public interest. We are grateful for the chance to try to humbly act as good relatives with the Coast Salish peoples, on whose unceded lands we are living.

We will gather on the stairs of the BC Supreme court building at Nelson and Hornby in a socially distanced occupation of the space to be in ceremony, and listen to the words of these courageous land defenders before they go in at 10:00 AM. Some people will then continue to hold the public space with a theatrical performance about the Canadian Government's criminal ecocide on the courthouse stairs.
