UPDATED SPEAKERS:

TAMARA LORINCZ – A PhD candidate at Balsillie School of International Affairs (Wilfrid Laurier University), co-founder of the East Coast Environmental Law Association, Fellow at the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute (CFPI) and Board Member of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace.

JENNIFER NATHAN – A teacher with a Science degree in Biology and a Masters of Education who has worked in formal and informal science education. She was arrested in 2018 after peacefully disobeying an injunction relating to the construction of the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion and raised the common law defence of necessity in a lengthy legal case.

ROSALIE CHADY - She/her/hers, occupier on Kwikwetlem; səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh); xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Qayqayt lands. Member of youth climate justice organization Sustainabiliteens, grade 11 student, entering into the fight for a world that centres healing + repairing ourselves and our planet.

MAUREEN CURRAN & CHRISTINE THURING – Both leading organizers in Protect the Planet, Stop TMX which successfully held a tree-sit blocking TMX pipeline construction through Burnaby for over one year.

THOMAS DAVIES – A founding member of Climate Convergence. Unionized Pipefitter and Power Engineer. Author of “System Change Not Climate Change” (Battle of Ideas Press, 2019).

Event will be chaired by ALISON BODINE & RORI SATYA, Climate Convergence organizers.

During the federal election in Canada, it was startling how major political parties were able to continue to ignore the climate crisis that is all around us. Party platforms and the debates barely gave lip-service to the climate disaster and the immediate action required to restore the delicate balance with mother earth.

Meanwhile, movements across Canada continue to confront resource extraction projects, demand divestment from oil and gas corporations, and organize in defense of the rights of Indigenous peoples. And the divide between the status-quo environmental policies of the government of Canada and the people of Canada is growing.

Join Climate Convergence and climate justice organizers across Canada as we discuss building the climate justice movement and how we move forward together to create the better, just, and sustainable world. A better world is possible! We say system change not climate change!
