TMX insurance petition delivery - Rally

Cincinnati Global, a member of the Lloyd’s insurance marketplace, has become the fifteenth major company to rule out coverage for this dirty tar sands pipeline.

The wins on this campaign are coming in fast and furious, but we can’t forget that big companies like Chubb are still providing enough coverage for the pipeline to go ahead.

Trans Mountain must confirm its insurers before August 31st, so it’s not too late to get Chubb to back out. But we have to act fast.

That’s why this Thursday, August 12th, we plan to deliver a mass petition to Chubb’s Vancouver office with over 130,000 signatures on it – including yours.

Will you join us outside Chubb’s office on Thursday at 12pm and help make this petition delivery a success? Click here to RSVP on Facebook, or keep reading for more details below.

Chubb claims to be a ‘climate leader,’ because in 2019 it became the first insurance company in the U.S. to adopt a policy ruling out coverage for coal. Its CEO, Evan Greenberg, is one of the few U.S. insurance executives who has been outspoken about the industry’s need to tackle the climate crisis – so we know the company is sensitive to its public image on climate. But Chubb is still one of the world’s top eight insurers of oil and gas and has refused to comment on its coverage for Trans Mountain. Getting Chubb to cut ties with Trans Mountain would be a major blow for the beleaguered pipeline. That’s why it’s critical we keep building on the momentum of this latest win.

Fifteen major insurers have now pledged to never insure Trans Mountain, thanks to our movement’s ongoing pressure. After Argo, another Lloyd’s insurer, dropped Trans Mountain in June – we turned up the heat on other Lloyd’s subsidiary companies that had so far been flying under the radar. Thousands of Stand members like you helped flood company inboxes, increased pressure on social media, and made phone calls to company executives.

We know our strategy is working, but now we’re in the crunch period for getting big targets like Chubb over the line.

Will you join us in Vancouver this Thursday at 12pm to help step up the pressure on Chubb to drop Trans Mountain? Or even better, invite five friends to join you!

See you there,
