*** Featuring Speakers from the Holmes Creek Protection Camp and the Colony Farm Park Association ***

As of December 18, 2020, all construction on the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX) will be paused for two weeks due to multiple violations of worker’s safety on-site. This Fall, one worker has already been killed in Edmonton, and another seriously injured on Burnaby Mountain. in the construction rush to build this dangerous and climate killing pipeline. Meanwhile, the government's own Parliamentary Budget Officer released a report indicating that even modest new climate policies that reduce demand for oil could easily turn the TMX pipeline into a money loser.

This pause has been announced just at as Trans Mountain began to ramp up construction in Metro Vancouver. On December 9, police moved in to fence off and demolish the Holmes Creek Protection Camp. As well, it has now been announced that the sensitive wetlands of the Colony Farms Regional Park in Coquitlam are to be used as massive construction staging area. In January, it is expected that construction of TMX will continue as planned.

2020 has been a challenging year for climate justice organizing. Pipelines corporations took advantage of gaps in public health regulations to rush construction. Organizers have had to find new ways to continue building mass opposition at a time when public gatherings are not safe. Going into 2021, many groups and individuals have continued fighting and are committed to stopping TMX. The many reasons to cancel the project become more compelling every day.

Join Climate Convergence and representatives from Metro Vancouver organizations for an update on the current struggle, and perspectives for organizing in 2021 to stop the pipeline once and for all.
