https://www.facebook.com/events/441769746648348/

Friday from 11:30-14:00

AQ 5129 - Simon Fraser University Burnaby campus 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, British Columbia V5A 1S

This event is held on the unceded Coast Salish Land including the sḵwx̱wú7mesh, sel̓íl̓witulh, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, & kʷikʷəƛ̓əm nations.

The TSSU Solidarity & Social Justice Committee will be holding a walk down Burnaby mountain to visit the Coast Salish traditional Watch House/Kwekwecnewtxw. As part of the ongoing resistance to Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion, Cost Salish elders, members, and allies have erected a traditional watch house to watch enemies and protect their communities and lands. As people who work on unceded Coast Salish lands, we will be visiting to learn about the Watch House and show our solidarity and support to their efforts.

*Time: 11:30am to 2pm

We will leave from the SFU Transportation Centre (Cornerstone) at 11:30am, arrive by 12pm, and stay until 2pm.

*What to bring:
- Bring your own lunch, water and a blanket to sit on.
- Any supplies you can donate to the Watch House (they have requested AA batteries, flip top fruit salads, and crackers).

*Don't want to hike?

For those who are interested but can't make the walk, the Watch House is accessible by transit and car. The address is 8505 Forest Grove Drive, or Burnaby 200 Soccer Field. It is easy to miss the soccer field since it is not well marked, so please see the map or the nearest bus stops (52844 for the 136 bus, Lougheed Station, or 52877 for the 136 bus, Brentwood Station). Walk up to the parking lot, where you’ll see a public washroom, to the right of that up a slight hill is the soccer field. You can find a map here: https://bit.ly/2ItG5WE.

*Watch House Protocol must be followed.
