THE RIGHTEOUS TRAMP: CHAPLIN’S “THE KID” & SOCIALIST MORALITY

CHARLES DEMERS

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 6:00PM–8:00PM, ROOM 7000, SFU HARBOUR CENTRE

Sponsored by SFU's Institute for the Humanities

As it approaches its 100th birthday, Charlie Chaplin’s first feature-length film is too-easily dismissed as purely sentimental. But at a time when the officers of the state are once again tearing apart working-class families, activist, comedian, & lifelong Chaplin fan Charles Demers will argue that the film provides a blueprint for socialist morality.

SPEAKER

Charles Demers is a Vancouver-born comedian, author, playwright, and screenwriter, as well as being a longtime political activist.
