Support the Vancouver Team Climate Strike! - Dec 7

Organizers with this important youth-led action for climate action asked us to forward this appeal for participants and support to our list. Please see if you can get involved!

Join a movement of teens across the planet as we rise to demand that climate change is treated like the crisis that it is!

Youth across the world have been #climatestrike -ing on Fridays to stand up for their future. On December 7, we in Canada are joining in.

Stay tuned for our specific demands!

More info on Facebook

1. Talk to your parents and ask them to agree to write you an absence note

2. Find friends who can commit to striking with you! The only thing more fun than changing the world is changing the world with friends!

3. Make posters and art! (no worries if you can’t - we’ll have extras to share!)

1. Walk out of your first class

2. Make your way to the Vancouver City Hall Community Garden by 10

3. From there, we will be sitting in an MLA office all day

4. If you can’t make it for the full day, feel free to come late or leave early (ex: you can leave school at lunch and come for the afternoon)! Even coming for one hour has an impact.

- A musical instrument (or other talent to share!)

- Signs and art!

- Food to share!

** We will be providing some food, so please bring a reusable container and mug to eat/drink out of!

Draft schedule (to be confirmed):

9:15 am, or whenever you need to leave to arrive at the park on time: Walk out of your classroom!

10:00 am: meet at the Vancouver City Hall Community Garden, next to the Broadway-City Hall Skytrain stop and the 99 B-Line bus stop.

10:45: March to MLA Office

11:00: Arrive at office. Conduct a moment of mourning outside, then enter and peacefully sit inside (overflow on the sidewalk) for the duration of the day.

During this time, we are focussing on creating the future we want through sharing knowledge, art, and food. We are going to succeed through community and laughter!
