Surrey and White Rock Joint Open House on Rail Safety

Surrey and White Rock Joint Open House on Rail Safety

With rail safety on the minds of so many of late, the City of Surrey will be hosting a joint open house with the City of White Rock to look at the possibility of moving train traffic from White Rock and South Surrey’s waterfront to more direct, out of the way areas.

“This has been an ongoing thing. A lot of it is centred around the coal train issue and some awareness of the potential for a derailment of dangerous goods and what affect that would have,” said Baldwin. “If you look at it logically, you’d say that the current route is probably the worst possible route that anyone could have picked as opposed to a more direct route that goes through farmland and is more of a straight line as opposed to this windy twisty loop on an unstable bank. So we’re going to try to make a business case out of it and a presentation along those lines and looking for public feedback at this point in time.”

Both Baldwin and Watts will be making presentations at the event.

Those interested in submitting feedback are asked to attend the open house at Surrey’s Pacific Inn (1160 King George Blvd) on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.
