Attended the climate strike and want to get more involved? Always wondered what divestment really meant? Mad your university invests in fossil fuels? This event is for you!

On November 12th join us to learn more about the divestment movement at UBC, how it connects to the broader movement for climate justice and how to get involved! The event is open to all, regardless of previous experience.

Groups and individuals who signed the open letter to UBC are encouraged to come!

Some topics covered include:
-The global fossil fuel divestment movement: what, why and how?
-How divestment is linked to climate justice.
-History of the fossil fuel divestment campaign at UBC.
-How does UBC invest its money and who gets to decide if they divest?
-Why hasn't UBC divested? Responses to their flawed arguments.
-How will we win!
-Next steps & ways to get involved.

For those who are interested, but can't make the event - we will post resources and information after the presentation.

__________

WHO ARE WE?
UBCC350 is a political climate action group that aims to use the power of collective action to promote climate justice. Through our campaigns, we advocate for government action on climate policy, political engagement, institutional climate leadership, environmental justice, and Indigenous sovereignty. We are committed to climate action on and off campus, and aspire to question the patriarchal, capitalist, and colonial systems that perpetuates climate inaction and ensure that some communities disproportionately feel both the negative impacts of resource extraction industries, and those of climate change.

ACCESSIBILITY
>>UBCC350 is committed to creating scent-reduced spaces. Please leave your colognes, perfumes, and body sprays at home!
>>The AMS Nest is wheelchair-accessible via ramps at several entrances. There are two elevators. Wheelchair-accessible and gender-neutral washrooms are available.
>>If you have questions or concerns about the accessibility of our events, don't hesitate to reach out to UBCc350 via facebook or email (ubcc350@gmail.com).
__________

We acknowledge that the UBCC350 is organizing on the unceded, traditional, ancestral and occupied homelands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) people. For those who are non-Indigenous, our presence on these lands is an ongoing act of colonization. When we acknowledge these territories, we also acknowledge our responsibility to centre and support Indigenous sovereignty in all our organizing and being.
