BREAKING NEWS: DNR honors treaty, protects Cherry Point

Today, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced the "GPT cutout" -- a 45-acre area set aside for the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal pier -- will be added to the Cherry Point Aquatic ReserveThis is a huge win that honors a request made by Lummi Nation, is in line with thousands of comments made by residents like you, and protects the vital ecosystems of Cherry Point. Thank you for taking action. 
 
DNR also announced they are denying Millenium Bulk Terminals' request to sub-lease aquatic lands in Longview, WA to export 44 million tons of coal annually.
 
These decisions strike major blows for coal export proponents, but impending threats to override these decisions on a federal level are advancing with the new administration. 
 
It's up to Whatcom County to prevent any future re-opening of the GPT proposal by rejecting county-level permits. Come to our monthly activist meeting to learn more and find out how you can get involved (details below).

RE Sources is organizing supporters like you to make sure Whatcom County protects our communities by denying GPT permits, adopting planning policies to prevent future destruction of Cherry Point's critical fish habitat, and extending the moratorium on permits for projects to export unrefined fossil fuels.
 
We're also beginning a new chapter for the Clean Energy program, to push forward the transition to local renewable energy systems  -- starting with solar.
