Hello Everyone,

I want to offer a brief update on the progress of our open letter.

First, as you all likely know, the judge adjourned the case against the "Burnaby 5" until November 17. Here is some information about it in Burnaby Now.

Second, we have unfortunately had little luck placing our letter or getting news attention for it pretty much anywhere. Other than one mention in the Vancouver Observer, which I mentioned in the last update, there has been nothing.

This has not been for lack of effort. We've contacted by phone and email every significant news organization in Vancouver and Burnaby (except a couple private tv stations); we've tried to get someone to cover the story as news; we've tried to get the letter published as a guest editorial; and we've tried to get it published as a letter to the editor. No luck. It seems a lot of news energy is going into the local elections.

(I was somewhat stunned by the response of one place--the CBC--who told me they didn't even have a reporter coveri(ng the trial and basically said it wasn't a priority for them. I refrained from suggesting they move the guy from the "craft beer" story they were working on at the time...)

We'll resume efforts on this later in the week, but due to other commitments we cannot do so today or tomorrow. We're optimistically hoping they have all just put it off until late in the week when it might be more useful.

Finally: there is a rally/protest at SFU on Thursday on Convocation Mall from 11am to 4pm. If every person on the letter-- 449 right now -- attends, it will be a rather large rally.

If anyone sees the letter published, do let us know.

Best
