Subject: Paid Sick Leave Days Campaign Petition & May 21st Day of Action

Please sign our Coalition online petition to the BC government at the link in the e-mail below, and share the link with your networks. Here is a link to an opinion piece on the need for paid sick leave published in The Province newspaper May 3rd:

In collaboration with the Retail Action Network in Victoria we have launched a Paid Sick Days Campaign Petition and a Day of Action on May 21st to pressure the BC government to implement provisions in the Employment Standards Act that provide all employees with the right to paid sick leave. This has long been one of the changes we have been advocating for to modernize the ESA. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent direction of health authorities that workers have a social responsibility to stay home and not report for work if they feel sick makes the implementation of legislated paid sick leave more imperative.

The May 21st Day of Action in BC coincides with a similar campaign day of action being organized by the Workers Action Centre in Toronto.
