Mainstreet Equity are trying to evict a refugee family with a young disabled daughter who's in need of 24-hour care - WE WILL FIGHT BACK

This is outrageous!
A refugee Syrian family with 3 of 4 members suffering serious health issues is going to be evicted during COVID. The Tenancy Board gave the go-ahead for a July 31st eviction for alleged $250 damages in early 2019.
The mother and father do not speak english and did not understand the legal process, the teenage daughter is severely disabled and is in hospital recovering from 3 major surgeries and will not be released until end of month.
The father suffers from severe PTSD, the mother has had heart surgery and suffers from heart issues, neither can speak English and did not understand the legal process the landlord used to get an eviction order, DURING the so-called moratorium, for $250 of damage which I am not convinced they are responsible for.
Mainstreet Equity is notorious for renovictions and bullying tenants to leave who report maintenance issues to the managers. When I walked around the building for a few hours and talked to residents they all gave me horror stories of harassment they or friends in building have experienced.
The Syrian family pays $1279/mo for a 3bdrm and Mainstreet advertises these for $1900/mo so it is obvious to anyone that the landlord is evicting them to jack up the rent. The BCNDP, when in opposition, said they were going to end renovictions and demovictions and even put forward legislation that they criticized the BCLibs for voting against. If the Housing Minister had enacted vacancy control the landlord would have to keep the rent the same as it is with these tenants in or out and this would not be happening.
is lifting the eviction moratorium, but this was exempt because the RTB deemed this family was a threat to the landlord's property which is ridiculous. The family is now forced to look for new place during the pandemic. Two of the four members are at highly vulnerable and could face death if they catch the virus, especially the daughter who has severe cerebral palsy among other medical issues and the mother has heart issues which makes her especially vulnerable to succumbing to COVID.AlsoSelina Robinson
to discuss this but have not heard back yet. Even if this family is rehoused, we need the moratorium to continue until COVID is over and vacancy control to end horror stories like this. The tenants never missed rent and are being evicted for an alleged $250 in damages. We have asked for a meeting with MLAGarry Begg
