PRESS RELEASE AND COMMUNITY ALERT: CEASE AND DESIST ORDER ISSUED TO TMX PIPELINE
As of October 9th 2020 and in response to TMX Transmountain pipeline surveyors trespassing on Secwepemc Territory while the Secwepemc are hosting ceremony, a sacred fire has been lit directly across from the drill pad where TMX pipeline is attempting to drill under our salmon bearing river, the Secwepemcetkwe, without the consent of the Secwepemc Nation.
A Cease and Desist Order has been issued to TMX pipeline corporation and the sacred fire has been lit in accordance to Secwepemc law and jurisdiction and as directed by our hereditary chief, the National Elder’s council and the Secwepemc.
The Chief and band councils in our Nation are an extension of the canadian federal government who are in a conflict of interest in also owning this pipeline and have no jurisdiction further than the borders of the reserve and any deals made between them and the pipeline corporation, the government, the RCMP or the military have no bearing on the actions we take today.
Clean water, wild salmon and our love for all of our relatives and our future generations guide us forward and give us strength to carry out the wishes of our Nation.
“The TMX pipeline is in direct violation of Secwepemc Law and the responsibilities given to us by Tqelt Kukpi7 and Coyote and this is the only law we follow. The Nation has not given its consent for this pipeline and it will not be built at the cost of our water, our salmon, our People and our future generations”
