Dec. 13, 2024

Hello,

This December 6th, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) re-initiated Zain Haq’s deportation order. Now, Zain is required to leave for Pakistan by January 21, 2025.

Previously, in April 2024, Zain's removal from Canada was stopped via the granting of a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) from the Honorable Minister of Immigration, Marc Miller directly. The TRP granted had an expiry date of 6 months.

Despite having applied for another TRP before its expiry date and also having a Spousal Sponsorship application processing for 20 months, Zain does not have implied status in Canada and is slated for removal January 21, 2025 on this technicality.

We ask that you again write to your MP and ask them to bring this to the attention of the Honorable Marc Miller and ask him to renew Zain’s TRP (reassert his original decision) or expedite Sophia Papp’s Spousal Sponsorship application. We are also asking that you call your MP after emailing them and ask them to bring this to the Minister's attention before parliament breaks for the holiday on December 19th. It Is important that we don't allow bureaucrats who are unaware of the larger context to overturn the decisions of elected representatives.

Thanks, and we will keep you posted as things develop.

Subject: ZAIN HAQ (UCI #1108978881) TO BE DEPORTED ON THE 21ST - PLEASE INTERVENE

Dear Hon. [YOUR MP’S NAME HERE] and Hon. Marc Miller

I am a concerned citizen.

Please stop the deportation of Muhammad Zain Ul Haq (UCI #1108978881), husband of Canadian Sophia Papp.

Zain is slated for deportation by the CBSA, because of his nonviolent climate activism, at 11 AM on January 21, 2025. I ask that you request of the Honorable Marc Miller to renew Zain Haq’s Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) immediately. Despite Minister Miller's intervention to stop his removal, CBSA has reinitiated his removal 6 months later.

Zain’s previous motion to stay his removal was dismissed in court on April 18, 2024, and I am hoping that you will request the Minister of Immigration to intervene once again and maintain the spirit of his original decision to stop Zain’s deportation.

Zain and Sophia have had a Spousal Sponsorship processing since May, 2023. It will be devastating for them to be separated. It is important that we maintain the integrity of the executive decisions of elected representatives and not allow for them to be overturned by bureaucrats unaware of the larger context.

I am counting on you as my MP to do the right thing and urge that Hon. Marc Miller renew Zain’s Temporary Residence Permit immediately. Zain and Sophia have been trying to preserve their relationship in Canada, please do not create unnecessary hardship for both of them.

Please feel free to contact Zain Haq directly at 250-884-1873 or Zain’s legal counsel at 604-404-8851.

Thank you,
