Winter in Paris is notoriously clammy, and this winter was no exception. But Gregory Ferembach didn’t need to turn on his heat much. One reason? The walls in his public housing building are lined with one of nature’s best insulation materials: hemp.

“We’re never cold in winter,” Ferembach said in French. “The kids walk around barefoot all the time, or even in their underwear.”

New provincial funding announced

New Democrat MLAs Aman Singh and Jennifer Whiteside are welcoming the announcement of $22,000 in funding to support the planning and development of an emergency evacuation route for the city.

If passed, the new bill would ensure rent can only be increased at the rate of inflation, and landlords would have to apply to the Residential Tenancy Branch before they can issue an eviction notice relating to renovations.

The B.C. government has proposed a law that would extend the rent freeze to the end of 2021, cap future rent increases to inflation and prevent illegal renovictions.
