Vancouver city councillors have voted to join cities such as Los Angeles and London in declaring a climate emergency.

The city clerk’s office says in a social media post that councillors voted unanimously to approve the motion.

Councillor Christine Boyle, who moved the resolution, says staff now have the mandate to “dramatically strengthen” Vancouver’s climate plan.

VANCOUVER—Vancouver city councillor Jean Swanson still wears the friendship bracelet woven by young female inmates she befriended during her four-day stint at Alouette Correctional Centre for Women in August. She hasn’t taken it off once.

We had such a packed and exciting General Meeting last night. With Tenant Power we can to end renovictions this week!

Vancouver Councillor Jean Swanson has put a motion forward to Protect Tenants from Renovictions and Aggressive Buy-Outs.
