Stop Metro Vancouver

Transit Cuts!

TransLink has been cutting bus service for years. This Labour Day most cutbacks are in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond and North Vancouver.

Totally suspended until 2021 are Route Nos. 32, 44, 143, 258, and 480.

Frequency on other bus routes will be cut back by 10 to 33%. (Changing from every 10 mins to 15 mins or from every 20 mins to every 30 mins is a 33% cut.)

The affected bus routes are Nos. 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, 20, 22, 25, 68, 119, 130, 144, 145, 170, 236, 245, 401, 402, 406, 410, 555, 620, and the five RapidBuses.

Over the last 12 years, there have been many other cutbacks. Three EXPRESS routes are gone (on Granville, Macdonald, and Dunbar). Two NightBuses are gone (No. N6 West End and No. N16 Renfrew/McGill/Hastings). Also, there have been cuts to route Nos. 4, 9, 10, 14, 15, 17, 26, 27, 28, and 29. Gone for 12 years, No. 52, which circled Stanley park, must be reinstated.

The Vancouver Bus Riders Union does not exist anymore, so very few people are challenging TransLink (note that Route No. 103, used by TransLink’s CEO, has not been cut).

Do you know that Metro Vancouver is the only big city in Canada/US that does not provide low-income riders with monthly transit passes? High school students are paying higher fares than university students.
