Climate change activists disrupt Harper event

Two climate change activists managed to sneak up behind Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Monday just as he was getting ready to start a question and answer session at the Vancouver Board of Trade.

One of the activists, a male, stood behind Harper holding a sign that read "Climate justice now."

DePape told CBC News "it was very empowering" for the activists to get that close to the prime minister.

She said one of the two activists is currently being detained by the Vancouver police.

Peaceful Occupation of Penn West Petroleum Site Begins Little Buffalo, AB/ The Lubicon Lake Nation people have been driven to enforce their Law against PENN WEST PETROLEUM LTD. (TSX: PWT); (NYSE: PWE) today on an oil lease site located in their Territory by peacefully occupying a nearby access road. The oil and gas giant. Penn West has indicated they intend to drill and use hydraulic fracturing at the location. The site is at the headwaters of a nearby lake, bordered by the traditional Lubicon community of Kinosew Sakahikan referred to provincially as Haig Lake.

Ramp up climate action

On discovering that their mother tongue is not shared by everyone, tourists have been known to redouble their efforts to communicate by raising their voices. This comical failure to grasp the difference between a message not being heard and not being received also has a tragic side, because we appear to be doing something very similar on climate change. The scientific message is already loud and clear.

[Yesterday,] on behalf of it's 500,000 members, Vancity released a letter to the Port Authority saying it must not proceed with a coal port at Fraser Surrey Docks until our Health Authorities' concerns have been met.  [Just minutes ago] (yesterday) Delta and White Rock councils both passed motions rejecting the coal export environmental assessment as inadequate.   Our momentum continues to build, and we're not going away.

Flood the Port

VANCOUVER, COAST SALISH TERRITORIES – This morning Port of Metro Vancouver staff and security responded with physical force when 6 Santa Clauses arrived at their offices to deliver sacks of coal, along with thousands of peoples’ wishes urging the port to say ‘no’ to a new coal terminal in Surrey. Six activists from Rising Tide Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories (dressed as Santa Claus) entered the Port Metro offices delivered coal to port staff, and read out public comments submitted to the port as part of a 30-day review of the Fraser Surrey Docks Environmental Impact Assessment.

Coal Oil Gas - None Shall Pass
