This year, we have seen both electoral politics and revolutionary action playing pivotal roles in reshaping our political system to respond to the mounting challenges of climate change, racial injustice, global health, and scores of tributary issues.

Solidarity Winnipeg’s Basis of Unity says “We envision transforming society to achieve social and ecological justice on an anti-colonial basis. This can ultimately only be achieved by replacing capitalism with a more democratic society not driven by profit: ecosocialism.” This policy explains our common understanding of that goal.
The push to elect an ecosocialist leader of the federal Green Party signals a growing understanding that capitalism is the root cause of climate change. This is an encouraging development, and we hope this initiative succeeds.
