Last fully intact ice shelf in the Canadian Arctic lost more than 40% of its areas in two days at the end of July

The last fully intact ice shelf in the Canadian Arctic has collapsed, losing more than 40% of its area in just two days at the end of July.

The Milne Ice Shelf is at the fringe of Ellesmere Island, in the sparsely populated northern Canadian territory of Nunavut.

A minefield of racial divides, violence and human rights violations is about to explode in Blue River, B.C., over the expansion of Canada’s Trans Mountain pipeline (TMX).

 

On Saturday, July 25, tensions mounted in Blue River, B.C., a tiny community of just 260 people encircled by a backdrop of a stunning mountainous landscape along Highway 5.

It’s situated at the confluence of the Blue and North Thompson Rivers, where part of the TMX expansion is underway.

New Westminster-Burnaby MP Peter Julian is pushing forward with his motion that Canada institute a wealth tax.

Julian has submitted M-43, a private member’s bill that the federal government “should immediately implement a 1% wealth tax on fortunes over $20 million.”

Looks pretty much like the old normal with the possible addition of minimal support for childcare resources, a fond wish to co-opt Indigenous groups, an increase in government spending to boost business profits, and a decrease in regulations that protect the rest of us.
